Great park, nice lake and kids playground

Great bike trail!

The address listed for this "stream valley park" is actually the address of Lake Accotink Park. The "Accotink Stream Valley Trail" is the section of the Cross County Trail (CCT) running from the base of the Lake Accotink Dam to the Fairfax County Parkway. It's a beautiful stretch of trail, mostly paved, that meanders along Accotink Creek through a mature deciduous hardwood forest for several miles until it climbs up and out of the Accotink watershed and begins its descent into the Pohick Creek stream valley. An excellent bike ride for the kids, with no real hills to speak of until the very southern end. If you are quiet you might see an owl, or a coyote, or even an otter! The parking lot below the dam provides a nice starting point, and if you walk far enough you will come upon the West Springfield little league fields, where you can watch some baseball and have a sno-cone if you are lucky enough to catch the snack bar open.

This is one of our favorite parks. We love riding our bikes on the cross county trail here to get a snow cone at the snack stand. There is a playground, carousel and minigolf as well as plenty of shady picnic tables. We've never used the paddle boat or canoe rentals, but there are always plenty of boats available. The trail goes all the way around the lake and is not paved, and it's hilly, so it's not good for very young bike riders or strollers with small wheels.
